NEXT PONG TOURNAMENT

The 2023 Season RESULTS Are in

As the smoke machine fog settles on the end of general season tournament, we can now reveal the top 8 to fight it out in the invitational and for one 2023 PONG KONG to be crowned. Congratulations to Stuntmullet for winning the minor premier-ship, and to all who sailed in her. If you are not in the top eight, wild card entries may be handed out in the event that a finalist is not able to compete (right of refusal in point order). If you want to be involved with next years PONGKONG (yes we are rebranding) sign up for the SthSth newsletter

SthSthKingSt, is a house of art. We promote; drawing, painting, sculpture, performance and the hand to hand combat art of Pong. The first Ping Pong John Un, was an early benefactor of this arts community when it was just finding its feet in the warehouse known as “The Whale". Long before Captain Wang, Ping Pong John Un demanded rent, and thus inspired art from every pore, and whilst Ping Pong John Un (the first of his name) is now living somewhere in Dulwich Hill, his pun, innuendo, and casual racism has been passed on, and reincarnated in Ping Pong John Papadopoulos. May the dynasty of Johns continue to demand rent, and thus create the stress required for creativity.

As an outlet for violent performance art, and a safety-valve we present the 2023 Ping Pong John Papadopoulos Perpetual Trophy. A glorious spectacle and demonstration of Pong. This takes the form of a monthly competition held (unless otherwise advertised) on the first Saturday of the month (Check bookings page to avoid disappointment). Montly results go towards crowning the annual PPJP 2023 King. Please see the overly elaborate rules below, along with the monthly results. Entry Fee: $20

Tournament Structure: We are employing a bracket generator, based on the following variable player numbers (The following tournament styles are based on creating maximum fairness and involvement, whilst being mindful to try and keep the total number of games on the day around 10-15):

1 player mode: If only one player is registered they will need to win their first service game as if there was an opponent.

2 player mode: Best of 5 games to 21

3-6 players: Round Robin with 3 game Final

7-9 players: Double Elimination

10 or over: Single elimination (Cut Throat)

Point System: 1st = 100pts (+60%$). 2nd = 80pts (+30%$). 3rd = 60pts (1 free beer). 4th = 40pts. 5th = 20pts. 6th = 15pts. 7th = 10pts. 8th = 5pts. 9th = 2pts. 10 = 1pt. 10 bonus points will be awarded to the player with the best costume. At the end of the year your 3 best performances will be averaged to determine your seeding in the Final Invitational to be held in early January (Date TBC). In the event of a tie over the top three average it will depreciate to a count back average (4 games … 5 games). Only the top 8 will be invited to play, with flow over created if a finalist forfeits his/her position. .

Beginners with entry fee are always welcome. Pre-registration 24hrs prior to the advertised kick off is advised. The benevolent Stuntmullet is the only registered judge, and reserves the right to alter the rules at any point to create better harmony as he sees fit.
